The Three Pillars of Building a Profitable & Sustainable Longarm Quilting Business - FREE video

Meet Melonie Morrow of Quilty Lab Creations

Each month in the Longarm League, we hold a coaching call with one of our members to talk about their business. This month I sat down with Melonie Morrow of Quilty Lab Creations. We talked about her journey getting started with longarming, balancing working outside the home and running a small business, carving out time to take care of the admin side of things, starting an email newsletter, the joy of helping new quilters finish their first quilts, and more!

While League members have full access to the recording of the call, we asked Melonie to share a little more about herself and her business with our blog readers.

Without further ado, let's meet Melonie...

Q&A

Tell us a little about your business and the services you provide at Quilty Lab Creations.
I provide digital quilting services to all types of clients: modern and traditional. I also offer binding services, back piecing services, and I stock batting.

Do you have any advice for someone just starting out with their business?
Absorb as much information as you can and just keep learning one thing at a time. It will get easier!

How did you get started longarm quilting?
When I was learning to quilt, I discovered Angela Walters on her Midnight Quilt Show and instantly decided it was something I wanted to do! She is extremely talented and I have loved learning from her videos. I finally had the opportunity to get into longarming last year and have loved it!

Could you tell us about a business "win" you've had?
A business win for me has been repeat clients. I have loved getting to know them and their personalities. I have fun hearing about their "non-quilty" adventures and seeing all of the beautiful quilts they create. I want to create more of a community feel rather than a business.

What pantograph(s) have you been loving lately?
Lately I have been loving Knit 1 Purl 2! I has such a great texture and I could put that on just about any quilt and it would look marvelous.

What is your favorite notion for longarm quilting?
Hands down it would have to be my Sew Tites for loading quilts. Total game-changer!

What's your favorite part of making a quilt?
Getting to show my kids the finished product. They are still young and no matter what I create, they jump up and down and cheer for me, haha! Who couldn't use a reaction like that?!

Favorite snack while sewing?
Popcorn

What other hobbies do you enjoy aside from quliting?
I have fallen in love with gardening! Its so fun to take my kids outside and pick food from our backyard to snack on.
