Business Spotlight: Meet Julia Ward of Quilting Jules

Q&A

Tell us a little about your business and the services you provide at Quilting Jules.
I offer digital edge to edge quilting as well as t-shirt quilts. I also offer finishing services, such as quilt binding.

Do you have any advice for someone just starting out with their business?
Expect the first year to be quiet. Work on getting to know your machine and your process while you wait. Clients will come!

How did you get started longarm quilting?
I had a couple t-shirt quilts longarm quilted and became friends with the quilter. She convinced me that it would be a great business to be at home with my girls. She was right!

Could you tell us about a business "win" you've had?
I'm really excited to be able to compare my work from this year to last year. I've already quilted twice as many this year as last year at this time.

What quilting designs have you been loving lately?
Tread Lightly and Diagonal Plaid Bias Cut

What is your favorite notion for longarm quilting?
A needle with a loop on the end for burying threads: SnagMagic needle. [Fun note: Julia is our third guest in a row to call out SnagMagic needles as their favorite notion!]

What's your favorite part of making a quilt?
The quilting, of course!

Favorite snack while sewing?
I try not to snack near client quilts, I'd be terrified of messing them up!

What other hobbies do you enjoy aside from quilting?
Reading, camping, traveling
