The Three Pillars of Building a Profitable & Sustainable Longarm Quilting Business - FREE video

Meet Meghan Morris of A Piece of Quiet Quilts

Each month in the Longarm League, we hold a coaching call with one of our members to talk about their business. This month I sat down with Meghan Morris of A Piece of Quiet Quilts. We talked about the work she's put in building her business over the past year, smart branding, the recent release of her second quilt pattern, and prepping for Quiltcon!

While League members have full access to the recording of the call, we asked Meghan to share a little more about herself and her business with our blog readers.

Without further ado, let's meet Meghan...

Q&A

Tell us a little about your business and the services you provide at A Piece of Quiet Quilts.
I provide machine guided edge-to-edge longarming & I design quilt patterns.

Do you have any advice for someone just starting out with their business?
First, I highly recommend Rookie Season - both the information and the community aspect have made a world of difference for me.

Also, I find it extremely useful to have a lot of samples in my studio of different pantographs and densities. If I had a nickel for the number of times a client said, "OH! I love that now that I actually see it stitched out!!"

How did you get started longarm quilting?
I think, like many, I was frustrated with the difficulty I had finishing my quilts with the same level of quality as the quilt tops I was making. I started by using my domestic machine on a mid-size Grace Frame. That was an okay start, but within a few months I knew I needed to upgrade!

Could you tell us about a business "win" you've had?
A few months ago I reached out to my recent clients requesting they provide a Google review, and I got 8 Five Star reviews pretty quickly. I get a lot of business from Google, so I think that helps! It's time for me to reach out again to newer clients!

What pantograph(s) have you been loving lately?
I have been loving Behold Pantograph from Longarm League (below). It's so elegant and classy!

What is your favorite notion for longarm quilting?
I have a sticky magnet that lives on top of my machine called "The Pin Place" and I keep a self threading needle on it for burying threads.

What's your favorite part of making a quilt?
All of them! I used to say everything but pin basting and quilting, but now that I longarm, I love the entire process. From design and quilt math, to whip stitching my binding when I'm finished.

Favorite snack while sewing?
Currently, I'm on a hard pretzel kick.

What other hobbies do you enjoy aside from quliting?
Relaxing with my family - and once the warm weather returns, I love the beach and a good book!
